Be transported from ancient times to modern at our Historians Day. Five renowned historians will join us to discuss the eras and issues that fascinate them. Your visit will include a chance to explore the manor house and gardens at lunch time.

Historians
Daisy Dunn
Daisy Dunn is an award-winning classicist and author of seven books, including In the Shadow of Vesuvius and Not Far From Brideshead. The Missing Thread was a New Yorker Best Book of 2024. She is editor of ARGO: A Hellenic Review, podcast critic for The Spectator, and a frequent TV and radio broadcaster.
Sir Simon Jenkins
Simon Jenkins is the bestselling author of A Short History of Europe and numerous books on Britain’s heritage. He is a former editor of the Evening Standard and The Times. He currently writes as a columnist for The Guardian.
Gareth Russell
Gareth Russell is a historian and broadcaster. His latest book, Queen James, was named History Book of the Year by the BBC, Daily Mail, Historia, and Waterstones. He has also written on Catherine Howard, the Queen Mother, the Titanic, and Hampton Court Palace.
Rev Dr John McCabe
Rev Dr John McCabe is a new author and former Rector of Byfleet, Surrey, where he served for 18 years. Inspired by family stories of wartime Britain, his writing explores history and faith. His book Dietrich Bonhoeffer – The Last Eight Days has led to speaking and broadcast engagements.
Clare Mulley
Clare Mulley is an award-winning historian specialising in women’s experiences during the Second World War. Her latest book, Agent Zo, won the Polish Foreign Ministry’s History Book Prize 2025 and was shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Nonfiction. She is a regular writer, reviewer, and broadcaster with the BBC.
