A peaceful place to remember and reflect

West Horsley Place offers a calm and beautiful setting for memorial services and celebration of life gatherings. The atmosphere of the house and grounds lends itself to reflection, remembrance, and meaningful connections. Our team understands that every memorial is deeply personal. We will work with you with care and sensitivity to help create an occasion that honours your loved one and feels right for you.

Planning your memorial

We will support you to create a thoughtful and fitting occasion and welcome all types of memorial gatherings, including:

  • Celebration of life services

  • Memorial lunches and receptions

  • Outdoor gatherings in a natural setting

You can choose from our trusted list of preferred and recommended caterers, florists and other professionals who know our spaces well and can tailor a stress-free event for you.

Spaces

  • The Stone Hall

The Stone Hall, named for its flagstones made from York stone, is where King Henry VIII had a 35-course banquet when visiting West Horsley Place in 1536. Classical in style, the Stone Hall has a light and elegant atmosphere for receptions or dinners of up to 100 people.

  • The Morning Room

With views across the home paddock, parquet flooring and hung with historic paintings, the Morning Room offers a sophisticated and stylish space for receptions and seated dinners, catering for up to 60 guests.

  • The Library

West Horsley Place is home to the remarkable Crewe Book Collection (much of which has now been donated to Trinity College, Cambridge) which forms our atmospheric library. Floor-to-ceiling bookcases, antique furniture and medieval wall arches make this an atmospheric room. Available for receptions and seated dinners, catering for up to 40 guests.

  • Place Farm Barn

Place Farm Barn is a Grade II listed converted and restored double height barn. With polished concrete floors complementing the exposed brick, and modern heating and technical facilities, it is rustic yet supremely comfortable. The barn can accommodate up to 150 guests.

  • The Walled Garden

Our 5 acres of formal walled gardens were laid out in 1710 and feature the rare and beautiful crinkle-crankle serpentine wall, as well as a charming and spacious walled orchard. The gardens offer a variety of possible locations for quiet ceremonies or memorials in a natural environment.

A celebration of Mum’s life

Very many thanks for arranging everything for us at West Horsley Place. It is a day which is hard to visualise but we were delighted, and it absolutely was a good celebration of Mum’s life. We have had many lovely emails and comments. It would seem that this is the way they all want to go!

Dad would have loved it

I wanted to drop you a quick note to thank you and the team for all your help both in the run up to Wednesday and on the day itself. While it was a rollercoaster of emotions, the memorial and reception was definitely more celebratory than anything else, and everyone said how happy and appropriate it felt given the man they knew and respected. It was made easier by the turnout and the tributes, but the venue was perfect and I know Dad would have loved it too.
